About

Hi, my name is Michaela, and I am the creator of Chaela's Curls! When I was younger, I did not always have the love and the care to manage a healthy head of hair. I had to learn what my hair needed to be healthy, how to take care of those needs, and how to maintain a consistent routine. As a child, I had a very unhealthy and lazy approach to dealing with my hair care needs. It was always difficult to manage and hurt to comb through. I would use every method possible to straighten my hair to make it more "manageable", but to no avail, my new growth would come and I would be right back to where I started. Constant straightening and the use of chemical relaxers also contributed to the damage I was putting my hair and body through. Finally, seeing my mom start her natural journey and learning to love her curls inspired me to go natural and learn to love my own. These are the catalysts that inspired me to start my transition in the eighth grade, and I never looked back!

When I imagined what I would be when I grew up, I thought I would be a doctor or conduct research for a healthcare brand. I could not have been more wrong. After graduating from Richland Collegiate High School with an associate degree in Chemistry, I went on to study Natural Sciences. Upon graduating from The University of Texas at Austin with a BSA in Biochemistry, I never thought I would be able to use that knowledge to help people on their very own natural hair journey with my natural hair care products! While this was not what I planned to use my degree for, this has been one of the best decisions that I have ever made! Providing all natural hair care that does not have harmful chemicals or additives and that is also more sustainable has fulfilled me more than I ever thought it could. Chaela's Curls gives me the opportunity to help everyone find a love for their hair, - the same way I did!
